Stuck in an Elevator

Stuck in an Elevator

By: Amelia

Do you remember all of the long blogs talking about how I NEED to finish my elevator video. I finished it, finally! But wait, I need you to see it too. Do you even know what my elevator pitch video is? Well, it is when you are acting like you are in an elevator with someone that has the resources to help with your 20% project. You have to convince them to help you out. One reason you need to see it is because instead of explaining my project over and over again in my blogs, all you have to do is watch my video. Then it will already be explained. Or if you forget what it is, or why you should, then all you have to do is come to my blog with this title instead of having to find the other blog that has it the best explained.  Another reason you need to watch my video is it is more fun than reading the blogs. When you just read blogs it can get somewhat boring. When you watch a video, then it gives reasons on why you should adopt, foster, or rescue through a rescue such as SAAP  in a fun and more entertaining way. The last reason you should watch my video is because it gives a lot of facts and details about SAAP and our SAAP mission- Satisfied Animals Are Purehearted! SAAP is AWESOME, but so is My Video! (press on my video to watch it!)

The End is Near!

The End is Near!

By: Amelia

The end is almost here! It’s time to wrap up the project and… wait we can still do it for fun instead of a school project! Well the end is near for the school project part. On March 30, 2017 Natalie and I went to an adoption event. Natalie’s foster dog got adopted! We went to SAAP to drop Juliette (her foster dog) with her new family. The most rewarding part of our project is seeing people with their excited faces when they first see their new best friend. Also Natalie and I know that we are going to help out lots of puppies in the shelters.

Well lets wrap up the tears now! Anyways, we still have to do some things. We e-mailed our mentor, but we still need to meet up together. We e-mailed her March 31, 2017 about when we could meet up. Hopefully we get a response soon. Natalie and I have a lot of things to tell her. If we can’t meet up together then we will contact her in an e-mail. Also another way we could contact her is by calling her, face timing her, or texting her. Wereally want to meet her though.

We are feeling okay about our GMS Takes Action Speeches. Basically, we are going to tell the community about our project. I am feeling exicited and nervous. I’m excited because this is what we have been waiting for.  Also, Natalie and I feel like we are perpared for it. I am nervous because we have to make sure that this project keeps people’s attention. If we didn’t pick the right project ( but we feel we did pick the right one) then our GMS Takes Action Speech might be a failure. We think that we are going to do good on it.

Well this is how me and Natalie feel on this project:

We have to act like we are going to present our GMS Takes Action Speech in 24 hours! If you don’t know what the GMS Takes Action Speeches are then it is basically where Natalie and I (plus a whole bunch of other kids) have to present our project in front of the whole community. I honestly think that Natalie and I would not be ready for it. We haven’t even worked on our speech for it, but we re about to. So far we have accomplished e-mailing our mentor finally and she e-mailed us back. We asked her what days would be good to meet up together. She e-mailed us back about the days she is good for and said the exact times she is free. I think we are so close to getting a face- to- face meeting with her. Natalie and I think that this is an awesome accomplishment. We have been trying to e-mail her for forever, and we finally did it. I am so excited to meet up with her if we can.

We still need to do some things still. One thing that we still need to do is finish editing our video. We made all of our video, but we still need to edit it. Natalie and I have to put all of the video clips together. we are about half way to it. I am pretty sure that after we are done with that then we are done with the main project side. Another thing we still have to do is meet up with our mentor. Like I said in the 1st paragraph, We have e-mailed her already, but we still need to meet up with her face- to- face.

If I could go back in time and change something with our project would to be to add something in it. Because we are only doing a video we have to extend making it. If we worked on it everyday, then we would have been finished. I feel like we could fit something in our project. Maybe we could have add some fundraising. We could fund raise money so we could give SAAP new pet supplies. I think that we could have done that. It would have been some extra work but it would have been better then just having to wait and not  work on our project.

Well

This is what we are feeling about our project right now:

The Leprechauns are Coming!

The Leprechauns are Coming!

By: Amelia

Have you ever wondered what to do when you catch a leprechaun? Or why everyone wants to catch one?  Why do they come around St. Patrick’s Day? According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leprechaun, a leprechaun is a type of fairy in Irish folklore. Most people try to trap them so they can get gold and treasures from them. If you trap them, then you get three wishes in exchange for their freedom. What happens if you do catch a leprechaun? On  http://blog.ps119amersfort.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/CatchingLeprechauns.pdf, one thing to do if you catch a leprechaun is to never take your eyes off of it! It will try to trick you into thinking that there is something behind you, when there is nothing. The next thing to do if you catch a leprechaun is to take away his bagpipes. Once he starts playing them you will be in a spell. The third thing to do is to not get too greedy, because if you ask for a pot of gold then that will take away one of your wishes. If a leprechaun gets caught then it has to give you one pot of gold. Also if you get too greedy then the whole leprechaun kingdom will likely hear about it, and then there is no end to the mischief they might cause you until you give all it all back. The fourth thing to do is never take the fourth wish. He will ask you if you want a fourth wish, but if you take the fourth wish it will cancel out your first three wishes. The last thing to do is to not accept shoes from him because he will put a spell on the shoes and make you dance non-stop. Make sure to follow these steps if you catch a leprechaun. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

The SAAP mission

The SAAP mission

By: Amelia

This week, Natalie and I think we are doing well on our PLB and ELA 20% project. We have accomplished so much this week too! One thing we have accomplished this week is we have finish filming this video and we are now editing. I think that we have been working on this video forever so we are really excited that we have finished filming. Another thing that we have accomplished is we have finished our elevator pitch speech for our elevator pitch. In my recent blogs I have explained what my elevator pitch was. So make sure to check those out if you don’t know it. The elevator pitch speech wasn’t that hard, but we had to make sure it was approved by our PBL teacher Mrs. Ives and it took a long time (maybe 2 or 3 days) for me.

The next thing that I wanted to talk about was how we feel about this project and elevator video. Before I tell you all of this, our elevator video is just taking our speech and making a video from it. First of all me and Natalie feel VERY good about this project because now we are definitely on track since we have finished filming the video and around this time is when Natalie and I were planing on finishing it. Second of all I feel okay about the elevator video because I have finished my speech for it, but I haven’t started filming it yet. I plan on starting to film my video this weekend.

The next thing on our timeline for this project is to publish the video (not our elevator video) on or near March 24, 2017. I think that we are going to reach that date. Hopefully we publish the video earlier than March 24th. So another thing that Natalie and I really need to do is meet up with our mentor. We are going to try to email her this week or weekend. I hope we can meet up with her soon because we need to ask her some questions. If we don’t have the chance to meet her then we will ask her some questions from email. Anyways I think that we are going to finish everything on time.

I don’t think that we have any problems that we have ran into. Some of the other issues that we have had in the past is that we didn’t think that we were going to finish filming the video on time, but Natalie and I solved it by working on the video almost everyday after school and we finally finished filming. One of the problems that we might run into is that Natalie and I might not have the time to finish editing the video and we might run behind on that too. If that happens then we will start to do the same thing when we delayed on our video.

I hope that for the rest of the project we don’t run into any major problems or obstacles that we can’t solve.  Smiling DogCreative Commons License Rennett Stowe via Compfight

The SAAP Misson

The SAAP mission

By: Amelia

Just imagine, you see the cutest puppy in the world staring at you with those eyes and you fall in love. You are thinking I need to have this puppy, but you realize you are dealing with a breeder. You just buy that puppy and take it home. What you didn’t realize is that there are a bunch of animals with those same exact features , but even better. They need your help with adopting them. they need your love. Natalie and I are creating a way to show the importance of adopting, fostering, and rescuing from a rescue such as SAAP. We have accomplished a little bit this week. We have finished our elevator pitch speech and we are going to start filming some where around March 10th. Besides that, we think that we are almost done.

We feel very good about our elevator speech and our elevator video because we are confident about our elevator speech. We just need to film our video. We feel good about our project too. Natalie and I are accually starting to go ahead of schedule We are very excited to edit our video for our project. We can’t wait until we finish and see the final product.

We need to accomplish a meeting with our mentor. We haven’t talked/emailed her in a while. This week we are going to email her. The email is going to have the update of where we are in our project, some questions to ask about SAAP, when we could meet up, and the dates we both are free. Hopefully she contacts us back soon.

Some issues we are having is getting in touch with our mentor. As I said in my last paragraph, we still need to meet up with her. If we can’t meet up with her in person then we will ask her the questions and tell her about our project by email. Natalie’s mom has our mentor’s number and if we can’t meet up with her in person we can always text her or factime her. Other than that we have no problems right now.

The New News

The New News

By: Amelia

As you all know already, Natalie and I are doing very good on this project. We have accomplished so much this week. One accomplishment we have had was we finally finished our elevator pitch and came up with a fairly good tagline. First of all, a tagline is a catchphrase or slogan along with something. Our tagline is… Come and join our SAAP mission- Satisfied Animals Are Purehearted! As I said in my last post, our elevator pitch is when you are in an elevator with someone who has a lot of money, time, and the right resources to help you with your project. They don’t know anything about your project. Our job is to persuade them into helping you with your project. I honestly think that our elevator pitch will persuade them into helping us.

Instead of what we accomplished this week, Natalie and I are going to try to get some things started and done this week. One thing is we want to finish filming our video to show the importance of adopting, fostering, and/or rescuing from a rescue such as SAAP by the end of next week. I know in my last blog I said that we were not even close to finishing the video, but now that we have worked on it almost every day we have made a lot of progress. We only need about three more days and then we will be done! I think it is possible! One thing that we are going to finally start is editing the video next week as soon as we are done with filming the video. We plan on taking maybe two weeks or less for editing. Once we are done editing we are done with the MAIN part of the project, but there will still be a little bit more things to do after. Another thing we NEED to do is meet up with our mentor. We will try to contact

From all of the work we have accomplished I think that we are on track and feel good about this project. Since we are almost done with filming, the video side of the project is on track now. From the editing side of the project I feel overwhelmed because we haven’t even started to edit but I think we will be fine by filming. From the other side of the project (the papers we have to do from school by my ELA teacher Mrs. Croft and my PBL teacher Mrs. Ives) we are feeling VERY good about it. We feel good about it because we have everything done on time and it is good work. The only thing we feel like we aren’t going to do well is our elevator pitch. We thought we had it all right, but Mrs. Croft checked it and the last part was ALL wrong! Natalie and I are going to do the best we can to stay on track. So far Natalie and I are feeling really good about this project and we are still really excited to keep on going and finish it.

20% project update #2

20% Project Update #2

By: Amelia

The accomplishment Natalie and I have made was we finally started our elevator pitch. The elevator pitch is were you imagine you are in an elevator with someone that has a lot of money and resources to help us, so you are trying to convince them why they should help you out on your project.  We feel really great about this project so far because we are almost done with the video we are making. Once we thought that we were behind because we were not even close to finishing filming our video. Our mentor is Jen Lorenzen. She is an amazing mentor and helps us out through email. We are trying to meet up with our mentor because we haven’t yet. Natalie and I are wanting to meet with Jen next week sometime, but we haven’t talked with her yet. We are going to email her on February 4th to see when we should meet up. Our goal that we want to accomplish next Friday is to finish our elevator pitch and get it approved by our ELA teacher, Mrs. Croft. Another thing we want to accomplish next Friday is to email Jen Lorenzen and see when we can meet up. Black and white nejcbole via Compfight

So far Natalie and I are doing pretty good and confident on our 20% project!  Just to remind you our project is where we are going to the animal shelter SAAP ( Stray Animal Adoption Program) and creating a video to show the importance of adopting, fostering, or/and rescuing. My last blog was when we are just starting the project so make sure to check that out! Our mentor is a SAAP administrator, Jen Lorenzen. Basically she is responsible for running SAAP. We haven’t had 100% luck. We have had some problems. One of them was at first we couldn’t find a mentor. We search all of SAAP and we couldn’t find one! Finally we found the perfect person! Another problem we had was we didn’t think we were going to finish the video on time but we are going to now try to work on it after school every day! We will start doing it January 27 and do it everyday after that until we finish the video. Here is our timeline for every Friday that we get to work on this project:

1/27 We are going to try to get a mentor by
2/10 If we get a mentor we are going to meet up with them
2/24 Natalie and I are going to try finish filming the video
3/10 WE are going to finish editing the video
3/24 We are going to publish the final video on youtube
4/7 We are going to go to SAAP
4/21 Find a small dog to bring in for speech
5/5 Foster the dog (which means watch over it until it gets adopted)
5/19 The we are going to prepare for our speech

Well Natalie and I are so excited to finish our project! Here are some pictures to sum up all of the blog.If you think Gypsy has that lost dog look, you're right.Creative Commons License Steve Baker via Compfight

20% Project

20% Project

By: Amelia

In my Project Base Learning (PBL) we are doing a 20% time project. My 20% project is me and my friend Natalie. We are going to go to an animal shelter (SAAP) and renovate it so it looks more appealing. So or goal is to try to get more dogs adopted. An accomplishment I made this week was finally picking an idea to do. Well the right and good idea.  Right now we are working on our timeline of when we are going to do everything and we ate working on getting our outline for the project done. In December we are going to go to SAAP and visit all of the animals in there and   Then on January 1 we are going to make a way to get donations. Then on February 1 we are going to collect all of the donations. Next on March 1 with all of the money we got we are going to buy all of the supplies we need to renovate the adoption center. On April 1 we are going to take all of the supplies to SAAP and surprise them! Finally, on May 1 we are going to create a better advertisement for them. We are going  to have to present a speech, so Natalie and I are going bring in a puppy to the  presentation, and we need to pick one out. Some problems we have ran into this week were we weren’t sure how to raise money and we still aren’t completely sure how. We are trying to fix this problem by putting down ideas of how we could raise money. We have about 3 ideas so far. Natalie and I are trying to make more though. It has been helping us a lot! I am really excited about this project! I think it will turn out awesome!
